THE City of Casey has outlined several measures it is undertaking to save as much water as possible.
Mayor Colin Butler said the ongoing drought, hot weather and water restrictions had all combined to make council adjust their water use practices.
“Council is focussing on the three main steps to being water efficient which include reducing the demand for water, using alternatives to reticulated mains water and reducing water loss,” Cr Butler said.
Included in the moves made by Casey was the employment of a water specialist to analyse and implement water efficient landscape design throughout the council’s parks and gardens.
Casey preschools are also doing their bit to save water with council installing a water tank on every preschool site.
The success of the preschool program will be gauged on both the reduced water bills and increasing the awareness of water conservation among young water users.
The Casey Fields development at Cranbourne East is also saving thousands of litres of water with all excess water captured, treated and retained on site through a series of wetlands.
Council has also been steadily installing stormwater tanks at several recreation reserves that are used for the irrigation of the ovals.
Water trucks have also been purchased by Casey to enable the transportation of recycled and dam water to top up tanks.
