Casey’s firefighters strike while it’s hot

THE cavalry was called for and Casey firefighters responded in droves last weekend to help their country mates.
More than 30 tankers and six buses of firefighters and other emergency personnel departed from Fountain Gate in a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood blockbuster film.
Members from Narre Warren, Hampton Park and Berwick Fire Brigades were just a few of the more than 200 people who headed to Gippsland to help their colleagues fight the raging blazes.
Country Fire Authority (CFA) Region 8 resource officer Ken Fritzlaff said a total of six strike teams from Casey and Dandenong departed for the weekend battle.
“Each strike team has five fire trucks and a four-wheel-drive lead vehicle,” he said.
“We also sent up six buses to transport the rest of the firefighters.”
Mr Fritzlaff said the response from the volunteers had been fantastic and the camaraderie between different brigades made for a good working relationship.
“They are all happy to go and help. A lot of people from all over Victoria helped us out during the Ash Wednesday fires so we are happy to lend a hand,” he said.
