Close shave for kids’ cancer

FOUNTAIN Gate is the place to be this Saturday where the state’s largest Bluey Day festivities will take place.
Police and emergency services members from the City of Casey and beyond have been working hard to put an array of activities on show to help raise money for children with cancer.
Cranbourne Senior Constable Laurette Clarke will lose her long dark locks on the main stage at 12.30pm with Victoria Police band ‘Code 1’ set to add to the atmosphere of the big shave off.
“I’ve been growing my hair for the last year and a half for this,” she said.
“It’s only hair – it’ll grow back. Hopefully, there will be a sick child out there who will benefit from it – that’s the plan, plus raising the funds for the Bluey Day Foundation along the way.”
Senior Constable Clarke said she hoped to match the most money raised since the inception of Bluey Day.
“The Foundation believes that the most money raised by an individual is $25,000. So that’s my target for the day,” she said.
“Sam Castello from the Berwick Springs Hotel has kicked off the funds with a whopping $10,000 cheque so the rest will come from the activities we have planned at Narre Warren on the day.”
Some of the activities include: Police band ‘Code 1’, helicopter rides, hair colouring, sausage sizzle, animal farms and go-karts.
All the fun is set to start at 10am and finish at 3pm.
And it’s not necessary to be a police or emergency services member to get involved.
Those taking part can either pledge their donation to shave their head or ‘go blue’ for Bluey Day.
CFA official David Youl said they could spray their hair blue, paint their faces blue, wear all-blue clothes, dress up their school or work place blue.
“However make sure to collect a gold coin donation from all those taking part along the way,” he said.
For further information about the day phone 1800 258 379 or visit the www.blueyday.net website.
