LOCAL residents are being encouraged to do the right thing and put rubbish in the bin during Clean Up Australia Day next month.
Several sites around the city will have organised clean up activities take place on Sunday, 2 March.
Casey mayor Janet Halsall said the day is an important event for the community.
“Clean Up Australia Day gets people together to make our environment a healthier place, as well as increasing awareness of the importance of taking care of our environment and reducing litter,” Cr Halsall said.
“Australians are among the highest producers of waste per person in the world, so it is vital to raise awareness of the impact that wrongly discarded waste has to humans, animals and the environment,” she said.
Clean Up Australia Day participants have collected more than 200,000 tonnes of rubbish during the history of the event – equal to 4.7 million household wheelie bins.
“I urge Casey residents to get involved by registering to volunteer their time. It’s fun, easy and everyone can get involved.”
Participants should wear appropriate footwear and clothing, and bring gloves along.
