Cranbourne loses at Yarra Glen

CRANBOURNE bowlers at Yarra Glen lost their way on the synthetic greens and were unable to match the talented locals. Cranbourne lost all four rinks to the Glen, which was clear section leader in Division 1 Metro Pennant bowls.
Scores: Cranbourne 55 lost to Yarra Glen 122. B. Gay 16-30, G. Imeson 18-30, L. Quigg 9-34, R. Lyfield 12-28.
Cranbourne (2) was smiling after an excellent victory over top side Edithvale by 24 shots. The side won three rinks and dropped the fourth by five shots. Big winners were the rinks of Stan Burnett and Wal Ballard.
Scores: Cranbourne 114 defeated Edithvale 90. S. Burnett 34-18, W. Ballard 31-20, K. Fuller 24-22, C. Ward 25-30.
Cranbourne (3) was under pressure against second side Noble Park but won by five shots overall. The side lost three rinks in tight matches but the rink of Dick St Ruth ensured victory with a 22-shot win. The side was now the clear section leader.
Scores: Cranbourne 89 defeated Noble Park 84. R. StRuth 34-12, K. McLeod 18-20, T. Bonney 18-24, M. Eames 21-28.
Cranbourne (4) visited Berwick which is a tough ask to win the points and this match was no exception. Cranbourne struggled early and were down by 18 shots overall nearing the tea break. After the break all teams lifted to win overall in an exciting finish by six shots. The rink of Allan Dennis were the only winners with a margin of 15 shots and Ian Badger’s rink came back well to tie.
Scores: Cranbourne 94 defeated Berwick 88. A. Dennis 35-20, I. Badger 21-21, L. Stephens 19-21, J. MacInnes 19-26.
Cranbourne (5) was too strong for Heathmont and recorded a 26-shot win, taking two rinks and drawing a third. Skip Keith Davies had another big win with his team by 22 shots to take the club award for the second week in succession.
Scores: Cranbourne 111 defeated Heathmont 85. K. Davies 40-18, R. Sorensen 33-20, W. Plumbe 23-23, J. Kenter 15-24.
Cranbourne (6) visited Noble Park and, although winning two rinks, was beaten overall by 27 shots.
Scores: Cranbourne 73 lost to Noble Park 100. J. Potts 23-21, J. Kotre 22-21, K. Morrison 15-31, N. Mahon 13-27.
LADIES PENNANT
Cranbourne (1) had an 18-shot overall win over Dandenong Club at home. Cranbourne won two rinks with big wins by Shirley Venville and Thelma Lennon.
Scores: Cranbourne 104 defeated Dandenong Club 86. S. Venville 32-20, T. Lennon 29-14, E. Anderson 22-23, V. Bonney 21-29.
Cranbourne (2) played a close match against Edithvale, little separating scores all day. After an exciting finish at 100 ends, scores were tied. Both clubs had two winning rinks, Kath Dudink being the big winner by 10 shots.
Scores: Cranbourne 88 drew with Edithvale 88. K. Dudink 30-20, E. Woodman 25-22, B. Taylor 18-21, I. Smith 15-25.
Cranbourne (3) defeated Edithvale by walkover.
The club championship for men began with two rounds played on Sunday and after some interesting results the final 16 winners will compete for the quarter-finals.
