Hawk young guns fire up juniors

MOSSGIEL Park Junior Football Club welcomed young Hawthorn stars Xavier Ellis and Mitchell Thorp to Barry Simon Reserve on Tuesday night.
Ellis, 19, and Thorp, 18, were the Hawks’ first-round selections in 2005 and 2006 respectively.
The teenagers took the excited Mossgiel Park footballers through several drills and a free barbecue was also held.
Mossgiel Park vice-president Nick Constance praised the experience, saying it would have huge benefits for the club.
“It was fantastic for the children,” he said.
“They really got a shock when Xavier Ellis and Mitchell Thorp turned up.
“As far as the club goes, we are really trying to band together with Hawthorn now and they’re going to give us whatever resources they can to help us.”
Mossgiel Park has been affiliated with the Hawks for four years and is hoping at least one more similar visit will take place this season as the junior club aims to establish itself in the community.
“We’re really trying to make it a family club again,” Constance said.
