THERE was a flutter of excitement at the new Berwick Fields Primary School last week when the names of the school’s four house teams were officially unveiled.
Prep teacher Lara Schendzielorz said the school’s four house teams had been named after butterflies and all of the school’s 151 students had helped decide the names.
Blue team was named Ulysses, red team the Monarchs, yellow team the Skippers and green team the Rajahs.
Team leaders were also announced last Tuesday and Ms Schendzielorz said students and teachers had chosen a broad selection of topics before deciding to name their teams after the colorful insect.
“Some classes suggested we name the teams after superheroes, cars, streets in Berwick and past mayors in Berwick. “But we then decided on butterflies and the grade six students chose 47 different types and this was then narrowed down to four,” she said.
Ms Schendzielorz said butterflies would now become a key theme in the school and they now wanted to eventually build a butterfly enclosure at the front of their school.
