Man hid pistol on bail visit

A MAN who walked into Narre Warren police station last month with a loaded gun concealed under his clothing has been granted bail.
Nigel Conroy appeared in the Frankston Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday to face charges over the 7 April incident and pleaded guilty to one count of carrying a loaded firearm in a populous place and one count of possessing an unregistered firearm.
The 30-year-old Berwick resident was reporting on bail when a police search uncovered that he was carrying a loaded .32 calibre pistol.
During last Wednesday’s hearing he also pleaded guilty to drink-driving, failing to display P-plates and displaying false number plates. He also forfeited the firearm and ammunition.
Magistrate Christine Stewart-Thornton convicted Mr Conroy and released him on a 12-month community-based order.
This was on the proviso that Mr Conroy attend the Berwick Community Corrections Office, undergo alcohol, drug and psychiatrist’s assessments and undertake other courses to help reduce his chance of reoffending. Conroy was also released over other pending criminal charges, which he is set to face in the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 8 June.
