Rotary helps class enjoy the experience

By Sarah Pearson
AN entire class of Kambrya College students was able go to the Siemens Science Experience thanks to sponsorship from the Rotary Club of Berwick.
The students participated in science workshops including biology and chemistry.
Year 10 student Evan Swindells said the event also enabled him to join the Young Scientists of Australia group.
He said the Siemens Science Experience was “extremely educational and great fun”.
The Rotary Club’s donation of $1000 helped about 35 students to attend the three-day event at Monash University’s Clayton Campus.
Kambrya students Kim Turner, Marijanka Ricca, Sam Facci, and Courtney Bugeja along with their teacher Carmel Turner gave a presentation about the Siemens Science Experience to the club on 20 March. And in a letter to the club, Evan thanked Berwick Rotary for their sponsorship.
As part of its educational activity, Berwick Rotary also backs the Youth Exchange Program, which sent a Berwick girl to France in January, and the club is currently hosting another girl from Finland.
The club also recently donated three Chisholm Institute of TAFE scholarships worth $2000 each for tradespeople.
Geoff Rankin said the club’s sponsoring youth activities like the Siemens Science Experience helped give the students an education that they might not receive otherwise.
He said the Kambrya students “came away very inspired by what they had learned”. “It was a small gesture on our part.”
