I WOULD like to congratulate the City of Casey and various churches in the local community for their wonderful Christmas carols presentation on Saturday at Narre Warren South P-12 College gymnasium.
It was a professional concert and a fantastic way to spread the message of Christmas.
I was, however, disappointed by the lack of manners shown by the many children present, who talked, laughed and jumped around throughout the entire concert.
I’m sure a lot of time and effort was put in by the performers, some of whom found themselves having to battle with bad manners.
Nevertheless, it was a truly enjoyable evening.
Julie Woodruff,
Torquay.

HOLY smoke! After waiting six-and-a-half years the council fixed the footpath outside my property. It must be a farewell gift from the outgoing council.
D. Gardner,
Hampton Park.
WE were interested in the letter from A.J. Horn (News, 17 November) regarding council candidate Mick Morland.
We had a similar experience with him a few years ago. He promised to help us when we had a problem but didn’t get back to us either after repeated phone calls.
We were disappointed in him and will never forget it.
B. Mackenzie,
Narre Warren.
I FIND it both deplorable and disappointing that Rob Wilson has been voted in yet again.
Do the voters have any idea of the havoc that this one man can cause?
Should we have reminded them of the pagan witch-hunt fiasco, which cost us in excess of $100,000?
Or the Edwin Flack shirts, which I believe cost us another $10,000.
Not forgetting his latest but probably not last lapse of judgement, the ordering of lights for the Strathaird Reserve without correct approval, which could not only cost ratepayers $30,000, but could cost a small business owner his livelihood.
Shame on you Cr Wilson, and shame on those who voted you in again.
Samantha Petersen,
Narre Warren South.
HERE we go again with an “arts” announcement by two of our councillors – another pet project? Funded by another increase in our rates? Next, will there be a third lot of T-shirts?
Don Moyes,
Berwick.
death penalty
I’M a pensioner and like to think I’m a caring sort of bloke, kind-hearted and average in mentality but this recent business of the bloke caught dealing in drugs has me confused.
First we spend millions on trying to stop drug trafficking and its serious effects, killing lots of our kids despite the education they get about it.
Now all of a sudden we want to make a martyr of one such person, even suggesting we hold a nationwide minute’s silence.
What a load of sad hypocrites we are – I say good riddance.
What happens to all the ones caught coming here with their huge hauls?
All living a life of Reilly at the poor old taxpayers’ expense with all mod cons, lawyers and medical treatment in our jails, more like holiday resorts, I’m told.
Sure I feel sad for the parents of this bloke but they know the laws of these countries and ask for what they get.
What decent Aussies and others feel is their business, but come on, don’t make a hero of this young bloke, do the same thing here and maybe the drug business would be less of a problem!
D. Andrews,
Cranbourne.
I WOULD like to congratulate the organisers of the Casey Central Carols by Candlelight held on Saturday 3 December at the Narre Warren South P-12 College.
It was tremendous to see the community get right behind this wonderful community event.
The carols were wonderful, the spirit was alive and the atmosphere was fun.
When my family moved into this area over 20 years ago, we experienced what it was like to move into a newly developed area without infrastructure.
I also fully appreciate the need to bring people together and develop a sense of community.
The one common theme that was expressed by community representatives was the need for an awareness of what is available in Narre Warren South.
I spoke to the Narre Warren South Lions Sports Club, The Neighbourhood Watch, Safety House, Girl Guides, the Cranbourne Chorale, Narre Warren Lions, along with church and school representatives and the pride they demonstrated for their community was inspiring.
I would strongly recommend that these carols do become a regular event on our calendar and once again congratulate the organisers and the community for getting behind this wonderful event.
Michael Shepherdson,
Liberal candidate for
Narre Warren South.
