Sex store approved

By Callan Date
AN adult sex store has been given the green light to set up only metres from a Hallam bus stop regularly used by school children.
Tuesday night’s City of Casey planning meeting approved the planning permit, which was lodged by Sexyland Australia.
Council officers had recommended the permit be granted.
The decision now allows for the establishment of an adult sex bookshop on Hallam South Road between Keppel Road and Centre Road in Hallam.
A council report noted the site was more than 200 metres from any residential area, school or hospital.
“However, it is located directly behind a bus stop frequented by school children and within close proximity to the Hallam Railway Station, also used by school aged children,” the report said.
Although in an industrial zone, the sex shop will also be located close to two children’s playgrounds
Only three objections were received in relation to the Sexyland permit with reasons.
The objectors argued that the sex shop would attract undesirables and that school children would be exposed to an adult store.
Their objections were presented to councillors at the meeting.
A restriction against any indecent or obscene material being displayed in the shop’s windows or doors forms part of the permit.
The store will operate from 9am to 1am.
Other requirements on the permit include:
– No live sexual act shall take place within the adult sex bookshop.
– The external appearance of the adult sex bookshop shall at all times be kept in a neat and tidy condition.
