Shopping for the cause

EVERY cent counts at a Narre Warren South supermarket with shoppers banding together to raise funds for the community.
The Customer Club program at FoodWorks supermarket has raised just over $5000 for community groups in the past year, with manager Nathan Pasco recently presenting cheques to more than 10 organisations.
Among the recipients were Narre Warren South P-12 College, which received just over $3200 and the Narre Warren and Hampton Park CFA, which each received just over $300.
The CFA plans to use the money to buy new equipment while Narre Warren South P-12 College will buy a new dividing curtain for its physical education centre.
Others to benefit were Hillsmeade Primary School, Narre Warren South Lions Club, Cranbourne Christian School, Coral Park Primary School, Jindalee Preschool, Amberly Park Childcare, Strathaird Primary School and Preschool and Narre Warren North Scouts.
Mr Pasco said customers joined the program and accumulated points for a local charity with one cent from each dollar going to the community organisation of their choice.
The store has run the program for nearly two and a half years and Mr Pasco said it was an easy way for local groups to raise funds.
He encouraged shoppers to come in and sign up to raise funds for their local community.
“Lots of community groups come in and say can you help us.
“This is the best way to do it. It really does add up.
“If a family spends $20 a week over a year that is $1000 from ten families,” Mr Pasco said.
