Speedy recovery in sight

SPEED humps, upgraded bus stops and road construction are just some of the infrastructure improvements nearing completion in the City of Casey.
Casey mayor Janet Halsall said maintaining a safe and effective road network was one of Casey’s top priorities for the community.
“Council is committed to ensuring our roads are upgraded and improved to ensure community safety and traffic flow are at their highest levels across the municipality,” she said.
“As part of our $25 million road improvement program for 2007-08, we are undertaking a number of important works.”
The City of Casey has completed the construction on several rural roads including Dalmore Road, from the city’s boundary to the South Gippsland Highway; Cross Road from Browns Road to Worthing Road, which includes roundabouts and a shared footpath; and stage three of Browns Road, from Craig Road to the South Gippsland Highway, which includes islands and roundabouts, and a footpath-horse trail.
Construction of Devon Road from Brown’s Road to the South Gippsland Highway is starting in February and is due to be completed in June.
“I am pleased to say that after extensive consultation with local residents, more than $500,000 worth of traffic-calming treatment works are due to start in February in Fleetwood Drive, Narre Warren,” Cr Halsall said.
“The works will include the installation of roundabouts along Fleetwood Drive at the intersection of Wesley Drive and Darling Way as well as a number of traffic islands.
“Another exciting project that continues across the municipality is the bus stop upgrade program.
“To date, there have been close to 600 bus stops upgraded across the municipality which has provided residents with greater accessibility and improved waiting areas,” she said.
The bus stop works include construction of flat standing areas with ramps and tactile paving to provide a waiting area, and access for all commuters as well as paths linking to stops and the existing footpaths. Additionally, around 30 bus shelters have been constructed.
A number of shared paths have been constructed across the municipality, including South Gippsland Highway from Waverley Park Drive to Wentworth Street, Cranbourne North; Thompsons Road from Lesdon Avenue to north of Tamworth Court, Cranbourne; South Gippsland Highway from the Inlet Hotel to the Tooradin Recreation Reserve driveway, Tooradin; Cannons Creek Road to provide connection along Cannons Creek Road to the general store, Cannon Creek; and Dawn Drive from Fountain Drive to Prairie Court, Narre Warren.
