Sight Training, Nintendo DS, Rating 3/5
SIGHT Training for Nintendo DS is the latest in the Training series of games that has taken the world by storm. Sight Training attempts to enhance one’s visual abilities through a series of fun minigames that require the player to interact with the Nintendo DS’ touch screen.
For example, to increase visual memory the game will flash the letter C in a variety of different, rotated positions, for a fraction of a second, and then have you select what you saw from four different options.
While I did enjoy it I found one major flaw that has cast doubt over its ability to train you properly.
Like the Brain Training game, Sight Training begins by assessing your visual age.
You then strive to improve your age, playing just 10 minutes each day.
The goal is to lower the age to one that more accurately reflects your actual age, or younger.
The primary flaw with this is that Sight Training is prone to inaccurately assessing your age.
During a practice session, the game estimated my visual age to be ‘in the 20s’.
But after creating a new profile and being reassessed, it estimated my visual age as ‘in the 40s’ – a significant discrepancy that makes one wonder how accurate the game is at assessing your visual age and, subsequently, whether you are playing the correct minigames for your visual age and abilities.
Sight Training is a fun, if flawed, game.
If you already own Brain Training or Maths Training, you may want to try this title first by purchasing it from a dedicated games retailer that will accept returns or exchanges.
