VISUAL art has a healthy future in the city of Berwick.
River Gum Ward councillor and Casey Arts Reference Group member Janet Halsall foreshadowed this when she officially opened the Berwick Artists Society 16th art exhibition on Monday 29 October.
The exhibition will show in the Narre Warren Library until Friday 16 November.
Cr Halsall said the society, besides its work in promoting art in Casey, provided excellent feed back to the council through the reference group.
She said art was the life and soul of a community and that art exhibitions could be the cause of many works of art being completed.
“My mother was an artist and I recall the excitement of art show openings.
“There was always a rush to meet deadlines because people worked harder to get pictures ready for the show.
“The City of Casey recognises the role of art and artists in our community and the council supports this in ways such as the Casey Art Space at the civic centre, the Casey Arts Directory, the Winter Arts Program, Casey Arts Reference Group, and the Factory Rehearsal Centre for the Arts.
“We will also be hosting a Casey Arts Gathering at the Factory later this month.
“Artists will gather, meet each other, and also connect with the council,” Cr Halsall said.
