Blaze a wake-up call

ALERT neighbours called fire crews to a blaze on Saturday morning after a Berwick home went up in smoke.
Country Fire Authority (CFA) crews arrived at the Rutland Road, Berwick, about 4am to discover the house well ablaze.
Berwick CFA captain Alan Boyd said the occupants of the house were not home and the fire had significantly developed by the time it was first noticed by neighbours.
Mr Boyd said fire trucks from Berwick, Beaconsfield and Narre Warren responded to the alarm and found the rear of the weatherboard home and the entire roof space engulfed in fire.
“Hose lines were quickly run out and an aggressive external attack was mounted to stop any further spread of the fire,” he said.
“Efforts by firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control and limit the amount of fire damage to the home’s interior.”
The roof was extensively damaged and partially collapsed during the blaze.
CFA fire investigators conducted a thorough analysis of the fire and the cause has been determined as unsuspicious.
