CASEY ratepayers could soon be able to pay annual rates in monthly instalments. Councillor Kevin Bradford wants residents to have the monthly amounts direct-debited from a nominated account. Currently, those who pay the amount in full receive a discount, and ratepayers must inquire to pay their rates in quarterly instalments.
Cr Bradford said offering monthly payments would be a simple change. But City of Casey director of corporate services Steve Dalton said the council would incur extra administration costs, and would miss out on receiving the interest it accrues on lump sum payments.
