TRAFFIC on Belgrave-Hallam Road, Narre Warren North was brought to a halt on Sunday when a car burst into flames.
Rachael Taylor said her family was returning from a model plane airshow in Knox at about 2.20pm when the fire held them up.
“We came around the bend and a car on the left side of the road was on fire.
“It was incredible, I’ve never seen anything like it,” she said.
Matthew Porteous, from Narre Warren North CFA, said the older-model Toyota was near the Melbourne Tank Museum when it burst into flames after a battery in its boot exploded.
“The occupants had been to the airshow and the battery used in their model plane is believed to have sparked the fire,” he said.
They escaped from the vehicle and no one was injured.
