Casey fails to score

THE City of Casey appears to have lost out in its attempt to lure the Melbourne Football Club to base its entire operation at Casey Fields in Cranbourne.
MFC chairman Paul Gardner said in the daily press, that the club’s headquarters would form part of the new rectangular stadium which is being built in Melbourne.
Although Casey failed to get the whole MFC operation based in the municipality, the club and ruckman Jeff White will still use Casey Fields as its summer training base from the start of the ’09 pre-season.

Chardonnay council

ONE Casey councillor contacted News Views to voice disgust at the ratepayer funded ‘wining and dining’ of the council in lieu of Tuesday night’s meeting.
April was a five week month and the two meetings were held on the 1st and 15th.
Tuesday night was instead used to give councillors a ‘sneak peek’ at the upcoming budget.
With all of the hard sums crunched by council staffers, our source reckons most of the elected representatives wouldn’t be able to spell ‘budget’. The real question is, can anyone spell ‘Chardonnay’?

Young and proud

CASEY residents should be proud in the wake of record attendances at all Anzac Day services held throughout the city last week.
Even more pleasing was the large amount of children – including school groups, scouts and guides – who attended the various events.

Walk and talk

IT WAS lights, camera and claws out as the new series of Australia’s Next Top Model took over our television screens last week.
Former Hallam dancer Samantha Downie, 19, is one of only two Victorian girls to make the final cut of the fourth season. The popular series is being shown on pay television channel Fox 8.
Strutting her stuff along the catwalk, the striking brunette is sure to be a force to be reckoned with.
But it’s not all glamour and designer clothes for the wannabe models.
The girls face weekly scrutiny sessions by the judges who can either break or make them into international supermodels while the camera crews are catching their every move for our viewing pleasure.
Will Samantha be Australia’s Next Top Model?

Notice would be nice

A NUMBER of angry Cranbourne motorists were left late and lost when VicRoads closed Hall Road for works recently.
As drivers approached the roundabout along Dandenong Hastings Road, a simple ‘Road Closed’ sign forced morning motorists to follow the ‘detour’ signs and continue towards Cranbourne South.
The alternative was to turn back and sit in the car park to get through the Thompsons Road roundabout.
For those that continued on, there were no more detour signs.
One News reader missed the Pearcedale turnoff and ended up in Tyabb.
The Sladen Street duplication is essential work but some prior notice would not go astray!
