Casey gets surgery surge

CASEY Hospital will receive $735,000 to help treat almost 400 extra elective surgery patients.
The announcement was made on Tuesday as part of the State and Federal Government’s $60 million elective surgery blitz in Victoria.
The extra operations are expected to take place over the next three months.
Casey Hospital’s allotment is part of a $2.44 million overall contribution for four of Southern Health’s key sites.
Monash Medical Centre in Clayton, Monash Medical Centre in Moorabbin and Dandenong Hospital also shared in the funding.
As a result, Southern Health will be able to treat 1215 people more than originally planned for over the next three months.
Southern Health’s executive director of acute services, Siva Sivarajah, said the community was the big winner.
“This is an excellent outcome for the community, Casey Hospital and for Southern Health,” he said.
“Southern Health is responsible for health services in the fastest growing area of Victoria and this extra funding will build on our excellent progress in elective surgery waiting lists in recent years, and reduce waiting even further.”
This extra funding is in addition to an extra $5.2 million recently awarded by the State Government to Southern Health for new equipment and capital works so far this year.
“This additional expenditure will help Southern Health provide an even better service across south eastern Melbourne improving patient care and treating even more patients,” Mr Sivarajah said.
