Council to dish up approval

CASEY residents wanting to install a large satellite dish on their property will need to get council permission.
Two new policies under Casey’s planning scheme will change council’s responsibility in managing the location and design of new telecommunications infrastructure.
City of Casey director planning and development services Paul Bawden said residents wanting to install satellite dishes should be mindful of the new policies.
“Many residents may not be aware that satellite dishes greater than 1.2 metres require a planning permit to ensure they are installed at an appropriate location and don’t impact on neighbouring properties,” Mr Bawden said.
“It is strongly recommended that residents contact council’s planning department prior to purchasing a satellite dish for their home to avoid any issues later on.”
Mr Bawden said the new policy on telecommunications facilities also addressed community concerns, with consultation with local communities and telecommunications carriers to take place to identify appropriate locations for future telecommunications facilities in the municipality.
Amendment C89 to the Casey planning scheme, which includes the new policies, will be on exhibition at council customer service centres until Monday, 19 June and is available for community comment.
Residents and groups can make a submission to the planning authority at: Planning Scheme Amendment Coordinator, City of Casey, PO Box 1000, NARRE WARREN, VIC 3805
