CRANBOURNE bowlers shook off a spirited challenge from Burden Park in Royal Victorian Bowls Association Division One Metro Pennant Bowls and went on to score an excellent 37-shot win and remain in the leading bunch.
Cranbourne had winners on three rinks and was narrowly beaten on the fourth.
Ray Travica continued his great form with his team to win by 17 shots. The rink of skip Brian Gay produced a big game to lead all day and win by 16 shots.
Ron Lyfield’s rink came from behind to win running away with a seven-shot margin.

Cranbourne (2) produced one of its best performances of the season to finish over top side Mulgrave Country Club and draw the match.
The side was well down earlier in the game but finished strongly to almost take the points. The rinks of Stan Burnett and Rob Paddon were the stars winning respectively by nine shots each.

Cranbourne (3) found the Burden Park side a competitive unit on its home green before it succumbed to Cranbourne by seven shots overall. Cranbourne won two rinks with Wally Ballard up by 15 shots and Ken McLeod up by six shots.

Cranbourne (4) had an excellent 29-shot win over Bayswater to move into the top bracket on the ladder.
Cranbourne had winners on three rinks with Len Patterson’s and Tom Bonney’s rinks the stars, winning respectively by 15 and 12 shots.

Cranbourne (5) had a fright at Dandenong Club and struggled to tie the match at 83-83. This side had its chances to win but fell away and won only one rink in tight matches.
Graeme Avery’s rink carried the day with a four-shot win.

Cranbourne (6) had to fight hard on their home green to come away with a 13-shot overall win against Boronia.
Cranbourne won three rinks but struggled on the fourth, which kept Boronia in the match.
Sofio Raiti again dominated on his rink for an 11-shot win. Gerry Winters continued his consistent form and Bill Plumbe returned to form with a 10-shot win.

Cranbourne (7) was away to Hampton and was beaten by 35 shots overall.
All bowlers had difficulty coming to grips with the synthetic green, with the rink of Thelma Lennon winning by two shots.
This side is still sitting near the top of the ladder despite dropping the match.
