Feminine colour goes through looking glass

VIBRANT painting and mirror creations celebrating women and award-winning youth art is now on show in Casey.
The works will be on display at the Civic Centre Art Space at the council offices in Magid Drive, Narre Warren until the end of June.
The decorative art creations by Springvale-based artist Bobbie Cox are a celebration of women around the world and feature a bold use of colour, decoration and feminine themes.
Ms Cox is self-taught and works in psychiatric social work. Her art was initially influenced by experiences of Aboriginal art from working in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Following her studies for a Masters Degree in art therapy, Ms Cox has moved on to almost purely decorative and vibrant works.
Casey manager arts and leisure Robyn Bowen said this latest exhibition at the Civic Centre Art Space incorporated mixed media to reflect women’s beauty and finery.
“Bobbie Cox uses a variety of media including glass, coloured beads and shells, which are added on top of her painted background. This approach highlights the exquisite nature of her subjects and creates a visually exciting experience for the viewer,” she said.
Ms Bowen said alongside the ‘Looking Glass’ exhibition was a computer-based exhibition featuring the winning, plus merit- and encouragement-awarded works from the visual arts and multimedia categories of the recent Casey Creations Youth Arts Competition.
“As part of this year’s National Youth Week, local young residents were invited to submit their visual arts, creative writing or multimedia creations into Casey Creations Youth Arts Competition. Some of the winning pieces are featured in the online display are a stunning selection of works.”
