Good day to say ‘g’day’

CASEY neighbours are being encouraged to say g’day this Sunday.
The Aussie greeting is all part of Get to Know Your Neighbour Day being held throughout the world.
Neighbour Day has been designed to encourage residents to develop a greater sense of community caring.
Federal Member for Holt Anthony Byrne is getting behind the idea and wants local families to also support the event.
“I understand that families are very proud of where they live and want a strong sense of community in their neighbourhood,” Mr Byrne said.
He acknowledges sections of Doveton as a prime example of where neighbours have strong bonds between each other.
“Residents in Oak Avenue tell me that meeting their neighbours was the first important step to the sense of community they have here today.
“We all need to work together to build a vibrant, friendly and safe community to live in,” Mr Byrne said.
Neighbour Day was founded in Melbourne in March 2003 and will go beyond Australian borders for the first time this year.
Some suggested ideas for this Sunday’s event include:
• Say hello to your neighbours.
•Make a special effort to introduce yourself to older residents in your street and anyone who may live alone.
• Leave your mobile and home telephone number for their use in an emergency.
•Agree to keep in contact.
