Haileybury principal dies

HAILEYBURY College principal Dr Robert Pargetter died on Tuesday, only days after announcing his retirement due to ill health.
Dr Pargetter, 63, became principal of the state’s largest independent school, which has campuses in Berwick and Keysborough, in 1999.
He was also Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Monash University, an institution where he had been deputy vice chancellor, dean of arts and head of the Department of Philosophy.
Haileybury College Council chairman the Honourable Justice Ross Sundberg said Dr Pargetter had led a remarkable period of growth and enhancement during his time at the school.
He said Haileybury now had more than 3100 students and a much-envied record in academic performance, sport, arts and culture.
Dr Pargetter is survived by his wife Faye and son David.
Haileybury vice-principal Nicholas Dwyer will assume the role of acting principal.
