Kids ‘Gel’ together

TERM Three sees students, teachers and parents at Harkaway Primary School in full swing with rehearsals for their whole school production of Gel ‘Slicker than Grease’.
The show and junior rock ’n’ roll performances will be presented at the Frankston Arts Centre on Friday, 2 September.
Principal Fred Hess said, “The school community decided to include an emphasis in the performing arts within the curriculum”.
Mr Hess encourages his small school to excel in teamwork. Students, teachers and parents foster individuality and creativity. These biennial productions are an example of the true Harkaway spirit where the whole school community pulls together to create an extraordinary event of which everyone can be proud.
Production coordinator Karen Pastor selected Gel ‘Slicker than Grease’ and has produced a bright, energetic show that includes four famous songs from the movie Grease; ‘Summer Nights’, ‘We go Together’, ‘Grease is the Word’ and ‘Grease Lightning’.
The junior school is opening the show with three rock ’n’ roll performances to some great classics; ‘Twist and Shout’, ‘The Land of 1000 Dances’ and ‘Shake a Tail Feather’.
The inclusion of all children and the integration of the production into the classroom curriculum are features of Harkaway.
The school would like to congratulate the Harkaway Community for their teamwork and enthusiasm for the benefit of all students.
This creative activity is taking place to the backdrop of the school’s $2 million building project. The construction of five new classrooms, a library, administration block and staffroom have provided a focal point of interest all year.
