Man injured in axe attack

A MAN was hit a number of times with an axe in a vicious assault in Doveton on Sunday night.
Police said the Dandenong man, 20, suffered serious leg injuries during the attack which occurred after a fight broke out at a party in a vacant house on Waratah Street about 8.30pm.
Police said the man was chased up the street by a group of men and struck several times with an axe. He was taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition.
A 20-year-old Rowville man received a cut to his foot, but police said they have not yet been told how it happened. He was taken to Dandenong Hospital for treatment.
Police said the two groups of people involved in the fight were known to each other and the violence was a result of an ongoing dispute.
Police have established a crime scene in Waratah Street and have seized a number of weapons as evidence.
There were about 30 to 40 witnesses at the scene.
Detectives from the Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit are calling for anyone with information to come forward. Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
