Men attacked in park

A 61-YEAR-OLD man faces ongoing treatment after he and another man were attacked in Dandenong Park on Sunday.
The incident occurred about 5.30pm when the men were approached by a 25-year-old Hallam man and a woman while sitting in the park.
Leading Senior Constable Mark Bell of Dandenong police said one of the men, aged 52, who has one leg, was hit with one of his crutches and both men were also hit with a bottle and punched.
Leading Sen Const Bell said the 61-year-old suffered bad bruising to his back and ribs and fractures to the cheek during the altercation and would require ongoing medical treatment.
He was taken to the Dandenong Hospital and has since been transferred to the Monash Medical Centre.
Police called to the scene said they had to use capsicum spray to subdue a man in order to place him under arrest.
They said witnesses showed a lot of courage to come forward and give statements.
A man has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of threatening to kill, one count of intentionally causing serious injury, one count of intentionally causing injury, theft of alcohol, assaulting police and one count of resisting arrest. He has been remanded in custody to appear in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 1 December.
A Thornbury woman has also been charged with hindering police and aiding and abetting a man to escape.
She is set to appear in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 16 December.
Police said they expected to lay further charges.
