Mini pirates raise the flag for fun

By Rebecca Fraser
MORE than 300 Casey kids jumped ship this week when they embarked on a high seas adventure.
The Berwick Church of Christ school holiday program, Captain Horatio Splosh in Search of the Lost City of Krusos, allowed primary schoolchildren to enter the cutthroat world of pirates.
Children transformed into castaways, buccaneers and adventurers and set out on their quest using ancient treasure maps to hunt for buried loot in the church grounds.
The morning’s adventure activities included Incredible Kre8it crafts where children built everything from pirate ships to treasure chests.
There was also an adventure challenge where children had the opportunity to be part of team activities. Children and family minister Dave Marrett said the weeklong, highenergy program would not have been complete without a splash of drama on the high seas.
He said that all participants had to be wary of Captain Splosh and his band of questionable characters.
The program’s cast included the church’s puppets Billy Cockatoo and the Emu Creek Gang, with Deefa the Dog and Ellie Fant.
The program was the largest school holiday activity event held in the City of Casey and the church had been busy working for the past few months completing the elaborate sets.
Children enjoyed their fun in a treasure cove, and there was also a cave, waterfalls, a pirate ship and an Aztec temple.
