Near miss for ladies

FOR the first time in the history of Narre Warren Bowls Club, the women’s pennant team made the grand finals.
Sixteen of the club’s members and two emergency players fought it out on Tuesday 18 March in Mount Waverley to take home the title of Ladies Victorian Bowls Association Pennant champion but, unfortunately, they got pipped at the post by rivals Altona Sports.
President of the Narre Warren Bowls Club Judy Naughton said the team was ecstatic to be in the final.
“We played well. But we stopped for lunch half way through the game and then we just couldn’t catch up,” she said.
To celebrate their finals victory, the ladies went out for dinner at the Fountain Gate Hotel.
The players received a plaque for their achievement and next season the women will be playing in the top level.
“The team is excited to be in the highest level and will face the challenges it brings as they come,” Ms Naughton said. For further information about the Narre Warren Bowls Club call 9704 9702.
