New fish in the council net

THE City of Casey has received three more lasting treasures from this year’s Commonwealth Games.
Two more fish, as featured in the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, have been taken from their Yarra River home in Melbourne and given to Casey.
They will be placed at the Casey ARC in Narre Warren and the Tooradin tourism precinct. They are expected to be officially unveiled later this year.
The turtle and rainbow fish are in addition to the roach that council netted earlier this month.
The roach will take up its new home at the Cranbourne Aquatic Centre, which is in its design stage.
As another lasting memento, Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan presented Casey mayor Kevin Bradford with a commemorative print last Friday to thank the council for supporting the games.
Mr Donnellan made the presentation on behalf of Minister for Commonwealth Games, Sport and Recreation Justin Madden and gave the mayor an official letter from the State Government thanking Casey for supporting the games.
The print comprises a photo of the Commonwealth Games baton relay in High Street, Cranbourne and another image taken in England to promote the Games.
During the Commonwealth Games the City of Casey adopted the English team and held a welcoming function for them at the Casey Fields sporting complex. The city also hosted the mountain bike event at Lysterfield Lake Park.
Last week’s presentation recognised these efforts and Cr Bradford said he was pleased that the city had another lasting reminder of the games.
“To play a small part in the games was a great privilege and I also congratulate the State Government on the running of the event and the ongoing acknowledgement in relation to the presentation of this print,” Cr Bradford said.
The framed image will now be hung at the Narre Warren council offices in Magid Drive.
