Record crowds come to show respect

– Callan Date
A HUGE part of the community turned out in Narre Warren North last week for the town’s moving Anzac Day service.
Memorial Drive was awash with people and colour for the 10am service with war veterans, school children, scouts and guides just a few of the many sections of the tight-knit community which were represented.
Among the many highlights on the day was the unveiling of a bronze plaque on the town’s cenotaph, which paid tribute to local veterans who served in World War II and Vietnam. Narre Warren North Primary School students played a big part in the day with the school’s choir entertaining the crowd with a rousing rendition of the national anthem.
School captains Tim Mashado and Jemma Road also helped out by reading a moving poem to the crowd.
Local choir The Freedom Singers sang during the service.
Narre Warren North CFA members and Berwick Salvation Army officials took part in the day’s proceedings and proudly joined in on the march which snaked its way around the town’s streets.
Organiser Bob Street said he was thrilled with the community’s effort in turning out in record numbers.
“It is great that you have all come along today, especially the younger ones who have turned out in such good numbers,” he said.
