School is second in state

HALLAM Valley Primary School’s girls football team has been crowned second best in the state.
Last month the team travelled to Reservoir to compete in the semi-finals of the Victorian Primary Schools Sports Association (VPSSA) Football Competition.
More than 100 schools attempted to qualify for the semi-finals with only eight making it.
Teacher Patrick D’Arcy said the semi-final included three round robin games with the two leading team progressing through to the grand final.
“In the first game, the girls played Gembrook and after being hit hard early, the Kookaburras regained confidence and nearly stole the game in a tough encounter, only loosing by three points,” he said.
The team won its second game with a last-minute goal from Britany and then went on to defeat Preston Primary School in its third match.
“The Kookaburras had won two out of three games and Gembrook had won all three games so we thought our chances of a Grand Final berth were gone.
“But a controversy with the VPSSA rules saw Gembrook disqualified which meant Hallam Valley went through to the State Grand Final at Victoria Park,” Mr D’Arcy said.
Hallam Valley took on Holy Trinity Primary School in the grand final but was outclassed on the day.
“The Hallam Valley girls should be very proud of their overall effort in finishing second in the state.
“They were so proud of their effort that they sang the Hallam Valley song loud and proud and arm in arm as they walked off the famous Victoria Park surface,” he said.
Hallam Valley also recently celebrated a fun footy day involving activities and games for the whole school.
