IT was so close for Narre Warren’s turf-one side on Saturday, losing by two runs to North Dandenong.
Narre started the second day’s play chasing 195 and great efforts with the bat by Dwayne Scott 84, Justin Butterfield 26 and Chris Jarrett 21 almost got it over the line.
A GRADE
Resuming at 1/51 in the chase for Southern Pirates’ 103, Narre Warren batted sensibly until the score of 76 was achieved, when Shaun Van Dam was dismissed for 46.
A minor collapse saw the side slump to 4/86 before Colin Perumal and Damien Robins batted steadily and got to the 103 target with the fifth wicket lost at that score.
Sensible and at times entertaining batting from Craig Caarels (36), Chris Morse (18), Glen Cank (16) and under-15 junior Matt Darvell (10 not out) saw Narre Warren finally dismissed for 189.
B GRADE
Narre Warren played North Dandenong and went into bat chasing 194 runs.
The first wicket to fall was Vic Bradshaw in the 30th over after compiling 24. At tea the score was 2/100. After tea Gareth Rees went for 56 with Narre Warren winning the game by 33 runs with six wickets in hand. Man-of-the-match award went to Jason Orchard for his maiden century of 101.
D GRADE
Returning to Hallam after losing on first innings last week the team decided to have some fun and give everybody a bowl, eventually rolling the opposition for 319.
Matt Murray picked up 3/54 off 20 overs and Fred Besterwitch 3/50 off 17 overs. Being sent into bat again, the team finished with 3/155 and saved the outright defeat. Ryan Collins got 51 and Matt Murray 37. Junior player Dylan Quirk bowled well and made eight.
E GRADE
Defending 286, Narre Warren toiled hard early with no reward but some great bowling by Roy Huke, Trevor Moon and Mick Van Dam got it back in the game.
Roy Huke took 5/34, Trevor Moon 2/41 and Mick Van Dam 1/40 . Some great fielding by George Barker to effect a run-out also helped the cause.
ONE DAY
Playing away at Endeavour Hills, Narre Warren won the toss and batted. Narre finished with 9/106 with the best of the bats being James Camilleri 18 and Daniel Anderson 18.
With a small total to defend, Narre Warren started poorly conceding 41 runs in the first six overs while capturing only one wicket. A change of bowler slowed the run rate, but wickets were hard to come by.
Endeavour Hills ended its innings on 3/113 after 29 overs. Best of the bowlers was Andrew Weybury 2/21 off five overs, Shane Johnston 1/35 off eight and Trent Anderson 0/13 off six.
UNDER 15 (2)
Playing Cranbourne at Lawson Poole Reserve, the opposition won the toss and bowled.
After a steady start by James Van Dam and Roman Jutoff, things turned and at drinks Narre Warren was 3/31.
The team worked hard to make 7/105, with Shavintha Goonawardena making 33, James Van Dam 10, Mathew Harding 10 and Dwayne O’Connell 9.
Cranbourne was all out for 64. Bowling figures were Rokhan Yousafzia 3/9, Rivad Chazbek 3/1, and Joel Kent 2/7.
Cranbourne then went in to bat and made 4/47, James Van Dam 18.
UNDER 15 (3)
Hampton Park resumed on 5/9 in its second innings.
Wickets fell quickly and Narre Warren finally dismissed the opposition for 28.
Michael Morgan took 4/11, Trent Anderson 3/3, Matt Brew 1/1, Jamie Collins 1/3 and Mark Blanco 1/4.
Trent Anderson finished with 10 wickets to win the man of the match award.
UNDER 13 (1)
Defending a score of 180 against Endeavour Hills, Cranbourne bowled well and gave brilliant support to each other in the field to dismiss the opposition for 79. Best figures were Matthew Clarke with an incredible 4/1 and Trent Morrison 3/13 including two brilliant catches. In its second innings Narre Warren finished at 4/42. Team award winner: Trent Morrison.
UNDER 13 (2)
In an improved performance this week against a good side, Narre Warren dismissed Doveton for 203.
Best of the bowlers was Raymond Smith 2/15 and Matt Retallic 2/15. Narre Warren then had another bat and finished on 2/36 with Jordan Muzzolini making 17.
Narre Warren lost on the first innings.
UNDER 13 (3)
Playing Narre North and being set a target of 106 to win, the team started well with 2/47 after 19 overs, but wickets fell regularly after the break.
Narre Warren batted out its 40 overs, but failed to make the runs, finishing at 9/83, with Scott Morrison 19.
