FOUR Narre Warren youths were arrested last Sunday after several rocks were thrown from a Monash Freeway footbridge near Fountain Gate.
The incident took place about 4.30pm near the Prospect Hill Road footbridge.
A motorist reported that his car had been hit by a rock, which caused extensive damage to the bonnet.
Narre Warren Acting Sergeant Andrew Smart said: “This is a callous act of stupidity that could have, and in fact in the past has, caused the death of innocent people.”
Police surrounded the area near the overpass and arrested the youths a short time later.
Two girls, aged 12 and 15, and two youths, aged 16 and 18, were taken to the Narre Warren Police Station where they were interviewed in relation to the incident.
Police said the youths may be charged by summons with reckless conduct likely to cause serious injury.
