The place to pamper pets

PUPPY ‘bling’ and pet birthday parties are firmly on the agenda of Melbourne couples, according to p
This follows a survey of 130 customers aimed at better understanding the relationship between owners and their pets.
The Pets at home survey found 81 per cent of pet owners celebrated their pets’ birthday with 72 per cent buying a small gift and nine per cent going all out with a party and cake.
Managing director David Herman said many of their customers were single, empty-nesters or childless couples.
“The bond they share with their pets is not unlike that of substitute children, so it’s no wonder they want to spoil them as any parent would,” he said.
“This is proved by the increase in sales of items such as pet ‘bling’ — jewelled collars, leashes and other luxury items such as puppy sunglasses and designer pet carriers.”
Mr Herman believes that the trend will continue with pet parents becoming known as ‘fur parents’ receiving a great deal of enjoyment from the companionship and fulfilment of a pet. ‘Fur parents’ have a great excuse to indulge in gifts for their furbabies this month at Pets at home’s ‘Tail End Sale’ with huge saving in-store between 23 June and 9 July.
Covering more than 10,000 square feet in space, Pets at home is Australia’s first pet department store, plus state-of-the-art veterinary clinic, pet-care pharmacy and grooming salon all in the one convenient location at Westfield Fountain Gate. Phone 9704 3988.
