Would you like maths with that?

YOUNG McDonald’s crew members at Endeavour Hills are lovin’ it when it comes to a new maths tutoring program launched last week.
The fast food restaurant has joined other stores across Australia in offering a new initiative for all restaurant based employees, giving them free access to online maths tutoring, tailored to the current high school curriculum.
McDonald’s Endeavour Hills owner-operator Howard Armitage said the Maths Online Program was aimed at encouraging a healthy balance between work and education and aligned with McDonald’s philosophy of empowering its staff through continued training.
Mr Armitage said it was important for McDonald’s to take a leadership position in providing educational benefits to its employees.
“Approximately 75 per cent of our crew are under 18 and we believe we have a responsibility to help them perform well in school,” he said.
“This is an excellent tutorial service which may be otherwise beyond the reach of many families.
“We also recognise that some students end their employment around the time they start year 12, but we don’t want them to be disadvantaged, which is why we will continue to provide access to leavers until the end of the academic year,” Mr Howard said.
Program creator Pat Murray, from www.mathematics.com.au, said the tutorials provide McDonald’s employees with their own personal teacher.
“Lessons are taught in a way that’s easy to understand, with instant feedback and detailed progress reports, making revision and study much easier,” Mr Murray said.
McDonald’s Australia currently employs approximately 65,000 people across Australia.
“As the biggest employer of young people in Australia, we have always had a firm belief in training and education and are excited to offer a benefit that truly reflects the value we place on our employees,” Mr Howard said.
