Young rally to pay respects

YOUNG students featured prominently last Friday when Endeavour Hills held their inaugural Remembrance Day service.
Former City of Berwick mayor and Endeavour Hills councillor Douglas Miles said at the service it was wonderful to see so many young people in attendance.
“To look around and see all the children involved is just such a great thing to see,” he said.
Maranatha Christian College teacher Brad Owens played the Last Post and Reveille and students from St Paul Apostle South Primary School sang the National Anthem.
Elyse Manson and Nick Anderson, student leaders from Gleneagles Campus of Eumemmerring Secondary College, read verses two and three from The Ode and also laid wreaths and poppies.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan and Casey deputy mayor Rob Wilson also spoke at the service.
“Today is a time to remember those who lost their lives while defending this country and those currently serving in our forces and recognise the great sacrifices they have made,” he said.
Cr Wilson said the new War Peace Memorial still required more development but he thanked the Endeavour Hills Shopping Centre and McDonald’s in Endeavour Hills for supporting the initiative and helping to find a suitable location.
He said more funds needed to be raised to build paths and steps to the memorial from Matthew Flinders Drive.
Cr Wilson also spoke of the need for peace and harmony in the world.
“Fighting is useless and that is why this is a war and peace memorial and I look forward to living in a world with peace and harmony,” he said.
