HARKAWAY and Narre Warren North residents have declared they will fight to block a proposal to turn the Hanson Harkaway Quarry into a tip.
The Metro Waste Planning Strategy has named the Noack Road quarry as a potential landfill site.
Residents voted unanimously to block the proposal at a meeting in Narre Warren North on Monday night. Long time Harkaway resident Bill Peeler spoke to residents about the environmental concerns and pollution of Walsdorf Creek.
He said the introduction of a tip could be an “environmental disaster”.
The strategy is currently up for public comment. Submissions close on 19 May.
