PREPARATIONS are now underway for Doveton Library’s $150,000 extension.
The library, which has 3600 members and lends about 63,000 items each year, will get a new entrance, an expanded public computer area, including four new public computers with internet access, a community meeting area, and additional toilet facilities.
The project is set to commence on 19 May and is the first time the library has had an extension since its official opening in August 1983.
The initiative is jointly funded by the City of Casey and the State Government through the Doveton and Eumemmerring Neighbourhood Renewal program. Doveton Library will be open during the extension works and works are due to be completed in August.
Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation’s CEO Peter Carter said the major extension would expand the library’s services and improve the community facilities.
“The Doveton Library is close to the local community and by performing the extension we are re-invigorating and re-inventing the library,” he said.
Mr Carter said the library will incorporate the traditional services with the added touch of the latest technology.
