Special carriage aids farm access

ACCESSIBILITY has been improved at Doveton’s Myuna Farm with the introduction of a train carriage specially designed to transport children and adults using wheelchairs around the farm.
City of Casey special projects officer Peter Lafrank built the carriage in his own time.
City of Casey manager for arts and leisure Robyn Bowen said Mr Lafrank showed an act of self-less volunteering for the good of the community.
“It is so rewarding to see the carriage in action.
“The looks on the faces of the kids are priceless.
“All kids love Myuna Farm and people with a disability have always been able to get around the farm, but now they can enjoy the popular train ride to the wetlands, feed the ducks and see all the animals along the way,” Ms Bowen said.
Myuna Farm gives people a chance to experience hands-on contact with a variety of farm animals and reptiles and offers a special environment of river gums and wetlands.
