Dreams become reality

ART enthusiasts are in for a treat as Casey’s Civic Centre Art Space showcases two new exhibitions, Dreams by Renae Singh and Rock Pool by Gary Odgers.
The exhibitions will be on display until 29 May.
The solo exhibition by Ms Singh features photographic images filled with drama and intensity while exploring ideas of dreaming, nightmare and fantasy.
These images are of a theatrical nature and are influenced by the Renaissance masters.
Ms Singh studied visual arts at Monash University and spent some time researching in the small medieval city of Prato in Italy.
She uses traditional photographic methods to create silver gelatin prints and then reproduces and retouches the images to produce a digital print.
“My main focus is to produce dark images with the use of highlights, being inspired by painters of the Renaissance,” she said.
Mr Odgers has been working with ceramics for nearly 30 years and his latest exhibition was inspired by objects found along the ocean’s shore.
In the Rock Pool series, he relies on the texture of the porcelain and uses a small amount of glaze to emphasise the nature of the work.
“I use small amounts of metal oxides and ceramic stains to gain the feel and appearance of the worn and weathered stones, shells, skeletal remains of coral, sea urchins and star fish that this series is based on,” he said.
City of Casey manager for arts and leisure Robyn Bowen is encouraging the community to see the exhibition.
“The City of Casey is proud to promote local and regional artists at the Civic Centre Art Space,” she said.
A free copy of the 2008 Civic Centre Art Space Exhibition Program is now available from the City of Casey customer service centres or by calling the council on 9705 5200.
