NEARLY 30,000 Casey residents have used the free Nurse-On-Call service since it was introduced in 2006.
The 24-hour advice and information line has become a valuable resource for Victorian families, with more than 740,000 calls across the state.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan said the large number of calls made meant the service was being embraced by the local community.
“It’s important to note that one in five callers who had planned to call an ambulance or go to a hospital emergency department were given advice enabling them to manage the condition at home,” Mr Donnellan said.
“The most common ailments about which calls were made were vomiting and fever among children, abdominal pains or discomfort, adult nausea and chest pain,” he said.
People can ring the Nurse-On-Call on 1300 606 024 direct, or can be transferred to it through any hospital switchboard.
