Take community’s heritage for granted

COMMUNITY groups are being encouraged to apply for Federal Government grants of up to $15,000. Holt MP Anthony Byrne said the Federal Government’s Community Heritage Grants were designed to help promote community-based preservation and collection management activities.
“Community groups which collect and provide public access to their cultural heritage collections are eligible to apply,” Mr Byrne said.
“Our community has a rich heritage and it’s important that we preserve our Australian cultural heritage collections for future generations. The program provides grant funding of up to $15,000 for preservation projects, plus a place for first-time grant recipients at a preservation workshop in Canberra,” he said.
In 2007, more than 80 grants were awarded for preservation and access projects. Applications for the 2008 round of Community Heritage Grants close on 30 June. To obtain an information pack contact Mr Byrne’s office on 9796 7533.
