Tax refund helps kids

LOCAL MP Anthony Byrne has outlined the Labor Government’s new Education Tax Refund, which was introduced on Tuesday.
The Member for Holt said the tax reform would help local families with the cost of educating their children.
He said it was important for parents to keep records of eligible education expenses made from 1 July so they could claim a refund in their 2008-09 income tax returns.
“A number of educational expenses will be able to be claimed, including laptops, home computers, home internet connection, printers, education software, school textbooks and prescribed trade tools,” Mr Byrne said.
“I understand that every parent wants to give their children the best possible start in life. That’s why helping to cover the cost of material and equipment to learn is so important,” he said.
