CASEY Council will continue its push to establish emergency housing for homeless people within the municipality.
Officers will look into modelling any potential accommodation on the highly successful Hanover Centre in Dandenong.
A suitable location within the City of Casey will also be investigated. Officers will look at various council-owned properties as potential sites.
Casey officers will also compile a report into the various state and federal government funding sources that can contribute to the much talked-about facility.
Councillor Paul Richardson has been pushing for the centre for the past 18 months.
He tried to draw attention to the issue last year when he took part in a sleep-out underneath an Endeavour Hills bridge.
Cr Rob Wilson spoke in support of the report.
“The fact is that this council has continuously had half-way houses for people seeking refuge,” he said.
“This is not something new that is being put up in front of us. There are a number of council-owned properties that could be used.”
Cr Bradford said the Dandenong complex worked well.
“There are several support agencies at the McRae Street centre. Downstairs there are several agencies that help the homeless and upstairs there are a number of emergency rooms for accommodation.”
