A RECORD 200 junior games for Casey Hockey Club was a cause for celebration for 17-year-old Stefan Young at the Berwick hockey ground last Friday.
Cheered on by his team mates and a crowd of well-wishers, Stefan ran through a banner before the under-17 game against Eastern.
President Julian Guy congratulated Stefan on reaching his 200, a record he said was likely to stand for some time.
Stefan began playing at the age of five for a Casey (then Berwick) under-11 team. A talented athlete, he was involved in athletics, football, and soccer before focusing on his hockey at 13.
He has played in two premiership teams, two runner-up teams and has won numerous junior and senior best-and-fairest awards. But his first hockey goal, on his seventh birthday, still remains his most memorable hockey moment.
Other achievements include being selected four times for the Sharks Regional Representative teams, twice for Vic Stix and, most recently, membership of the under-18 State Indoor Hockey team.
With 60 senior games already under his belt, Stefan looks forward to many more games with Casey – and possibly another club record. That’s if mother Fiona and younger brother Bryan, also Casey stalwarts, don’t get there first.
