BERWICK rally driver Will Orders has a simple ambition for this weekend’s Rally of Canberra, the third round of the Australian Rally Championship.
“A good finish – finally,” Orders said.
“We think we have a pretty good package at the moment, so hopefully it will transform into good road speed.”
It has been an up-and-down season for Orders and co-driver Toni Feaver as they have rumbled – and at times sputtered – into eighth position overall.
Their Subaru Impreza STI took them to finishes of fifth and ninth in round two, but car problems plagued them once again.
A new motor and gearbox will hopefully remedy the troubles somewhat and Orders is looking forward to recording his best result for 2007.
“When we’ve had a good car in the rallies we’ve been in the top three, so there is no reason why we can’t press on and try and actually make a weekend of it,” he said.
“Now it is time to put our heads down and bums up and we’ll definitely be hoping for a good result.”
It will be Orders’ fourth appearance at the rugged Canberra track, and it is a race he looks forward to each year as team manager Michael Thompson lives in the nation’s capital.
“I wouldn’t suspect it’s much harder than any other rally. It’s probably just a little longer event,” Orders said.
“There are still four rounds to go, so it is still quite early. There is still time to stuff up, but there is also plenty of time to make amends.”
