Rating 5/5

MARIO Kart Wii is a fun, frantic and colourful racing game that trumps previous entries in the franchise with an in-depth single player game and comprehensive – and somewhat addictive – online multiplayer mode.
Mario Kart, for those who don’t know, is an easy-to-play racing game featuring Nintendo mascots who race around colourful worlds collecting items that can be used to hinder their opponents’ progress during a race.
The first game appeared on the Super Nintendo in 1992 and it has since been a staple title for all of Nintendo’s home consoles.
In the Wii version, Nintendo has included a plastic steering wheel known as the Wii Wheel that allows gamers to utilise the Wii’s motion sensitive controls to steer karts as they would in real life.
The effect is a fun, easy method of control that allows gamers of all ages to play and enjoy Mario Kart Wii.
Gamers can also use more traditional control methods – so don’t worry if you’re not a fan of motion sensitive steering.
With 32 tracks on offer divided into eight different championships, and each replayable on 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc classes, there’s plenty of depth to Mario Kart Wii.
But multiplayer is where Mario Kart Wii really shines – both offline and online.
Offline, up to four players can play split-screen in either Versus Race mode or Battle mode.
Online, up to 12 gamers can compete in one game, meaning fun, frantic koopa shell-throwing gameplay is guaranteed.
Leaderboards, downloadable ‘ghost’ Time Trial data, and the ability to add Friends to play against further enhance the experience.
Having played all of the Mario Kart games since 1992, this reviewer believes Mario Kart Wii is the most in-depth experience so far, and highly recommends the game to Wii owners.
