THE windy and wet weather did not dampen spirits in Doveton on Sunday when more than 2500 people flocked to the suburb’s second annual show.
Organised by the Doveton and Eumemmerring Neighbourhood Renewal Project, the Doveton Show Day has been lauded a success with organisers pleased the wild weather did not turn too many show goers away.
Face painting, the animal nursery and art, craft and cake decorating displays all proved popular with show-goers.
Locals also stocked up on show bags and the abundance of great food on offer, as well as taking part in indigenous paint and craft workshops, tenpin bowling, pony rides, train rides and other fun activities.
Due to the weather conditions, organisers were forced to cancel the giant inflatable slide, jumping castle, merry-go-round and Chair-o-plane.
The Doveton Baton Twirlers, Bunjil ACDC dance group and the Police Showband also kept crowds entertained as well as sheep shearing and goat milking demonstrations, cultural dance showings, martial arts and hoop throwing demonstrations.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford officially opened the show and Dandenong MP and Tourism Minister John Pandazopoulos and Holt MP Anthony Byrne also attended the event.
Winners of the Dandenong Show art competition were Olivia Bazeley in the zero-five years category, Chehara de Silva in six-12 years, Krystal Peck 13-18 years and Maryanne Blythman 19-59 years.
Winners in the craft section included Therese Lynch in the 60-plus age group.
In the cake decorating division, Aiden Hudson was named winner in the six-12 years category and Ben Sua in the 13-18 years category.
